Ford Expedition Canada

The Ford Expedition is Ford’s full sized SUV manufactured since 1997, replacing the popular Ford Bronco but built on Ford’s larger U1 platform which is also shared by the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Navigator. The Ford Expedition is currently Ford’s largest SUV with three rows of seats and is manufactured in Wayne, Michigan while the third generation Expedition is assembled in Louisville, Kentucky.

Ford Expedition 1997-2002
The first generation Ford Expedition made its debut as a luxury SUV with a base model Expedition XLT and fully loaded Expedition Eddie Bauer which includes leather seats, sunroof, premium audio system and an optional third row of seats for up to nine. passengers. The Expedition was built with off-roading capabilities but designed for city driving; the Ford Expedition in Canada was available with a V8 4.6L SOHC modular engine which it shared with the Ford Mustang and a larger V8 5.4L Triton engine which it borrowed from the Ford F-150.

The 1999 Ford Expedition received a redesign and an upgraded 4.6L engine with 232HP and 291 lb/ft of torque and the 5.4L V8 engine with 260HP and an impressive 345 lb/ft of torque. The 2000-2001 Ford Expeditions received updated safety features while the Expedition XLT received a new XLT No Boundaries package trim.

Ford Expedition 2003-2006
The 2002 Ford Expedition was unveiled as a 2003 Expedition model, with increased towing capacity of 8900 lbs and a slightly larger wheel base and exterior design. Following some of Ford’s F-Series design which included a more aerodynamic exterior design, new fully redesigned dashboard, front grill and bumpers, plus a premium interior design. The newer Expedition began competing directly with other full-sized SUVs like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Chevrolet Tahoe.

The second generation Expedition received improved suspension with a new off-roading multi-link independent suspension, upgraded brake system with larger rotors improving braking performance. The second generation Expedition continued to use the same V8 4.6L and 5.4L engines, in 2004 they were approved by the Environmental Protection Agency as ULEV (Ultra Low Emission Vehicle). The 2005 Expedition received a revised V8 24-valve VVT (variable valve timing) 5.4L SOHC engine increasing power to 300HP coupled with a 4-speed fully electronic Smart Shift automatic transmission.

Ford Expedition 2007-2012
The last generation of the Ford Expedition received a completely mechanical upgrade, including redesigned interior and more luxury features. A longer Ford Expedition Max edition replaced the discontinued Ford Excursion. Using the Ford F150’s three-bar grill design the new Expedition also shares the resigned center console and spacious interior. The third generation expedition is based on the F150 platform which it also shares with the Lincoln Mark LT and Navigator.

The 2012 Ford Expedition in Canada is available in two trim models; Expedition XLT, Ford Expedition Limited and a Limited Max. Available with a standard V8 5.4L Triton 24-valve engine. Besides rear-view backup camera the Expedition includes Ford’s SYNC navigation system with voice activation, a 6.5 inch touch screen LCD, with over 10Gb of memory for music or photos and integrated Sirius satellite radio.
